A yob dished out his own rough justice after a chance meeting with a man who had burgled his sister’s house five years earlier.

Blackburn magistrates heard Macauley Seddon punched the victim “multiple” times causing a fractured eye socket and a fractured cheek bone during an incident in Darwen.

Seddon, 26, of Plodder Lane, Farnworth, pleaded guilty to assaulting Nathan Chadwick causing him actual bodily harm.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 20 days rehabilitation activity requirement and six months drug rehabilitation order. He was also ordered to pay £500 compensation.

District Judge Alexandra Preston said the aggrieved had been convicted of burglary and sent to prison.

“It is not right for members of the public to take the law into their own hands as you did,” said District Judge Preston.

“You have obviously made significant efforts to turn your life since this incident and in many ways it has been a turning point for you."

Andrew Prescott, prosecuting, said the offence was committed at the Darwen home of a mutual friend.

“The defendant attended, not knowing the aggrieved would be there,” said Mr Prescott. “He assaulted him by punching him to the head multiple times but the Crown has accepted there was no weapon used in the assault."

Neil Howard, defending, said his client knew the aggrieved because five years ago he had burgled his sister’s house.

“That involved him entering the bedroom of my client’s niece who was four years old at the time,” said Mr Howard.

“On the day of this offence he went to the address not knowing the other man was there. When he saw him he accepts the red mist descended. He immediately calmed down and apologised.”
