Traffic is building on a road in Clayton-le-Moors after a van fire.

The fire service was called at around 1.25pm on Friday, July 28 to reports of a van on fire on Whalley Road.

A dramatic picture seen by the Lancashire Telegraph shows the vehicle well alight.

Fire crews used one hose reel jet, two hose reels and an environmental pack to put the fire out.

Police say Whalley Road is closed and have warned people using the bus lane to avoid the closure to expect a fine. 

At the time of writing, AA traffic and travel said traffic was building in the area due to a blocked lane.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “At 1.24pm on the 28th July 2023, two fire engines from Blackburn and Hyndburn attended a vehicle fire on Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors.

“Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel jet, two hose reels and and a environmental pack. Crews remain in attendance.”

A police spokesperson said: "Whalley Road in Clayton-Le-Moors is currently closed due to a vehicle fire. Please avoid the area.

"We are aware of some drivers choosing to drive through the bus lane in order to pass the road closure.

"Please be aware that doing this is illegal and could lead to a fine."
