An Indian restaurant is celebrating after winning the Taste London 'Best Romantic Restaurant' in Accrington award.

Harun Miah, the owner of Balti Stan in Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, was delighted to receive the award for exceeding expectation of high-quality food, service and cleanliness.

Since opening his restaurant in 1994, Harun has strived to achieve excellence and says the award was validation of all the hard work and effort.

Speaking on winning the Taste London award, Harun said: “It’s encouraging because after Covid, and going through hard times with rising energy and food prices, business was hit bad.

“This award gives us strength and encouragement to do even better. When you’re doing this for so long, I opened it 26 years ago, it’s really special for me and my staff when someone suddenly taps you on the shoulder and says you’re doing well.

“Everyone here works hard but when it’s recognised by local people and the community and big names in the media, you feel so good about it.

"We’re very excited and happy and we’re looking forward to doing new things now.”

The restaurant serves curries made from scratch by chefs who use traditional Indian cooking techniques to provide an authentic Asian meal.

Harun also prioritises supporting other businesses within the community so only sources ingredients that are fresh and local where possible.

As well as the award, Taste London rated the restaurant five stars for the atmosphere and ‘Best Romantic Restaurant’ in Accrington.

Harun continued: “It’s such an achievement but I’ve always said, don’t ever think you’re the best because there’s always someone better than you.

"All the staff are excited to try new things to continue growing the business which makes me really happy as an owner. It’s a good feeling and I’m so grateful.”
