A man who repeatedly hassled his mother for money has been jailed after turning up at her home again in breach of a restraining order.

Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard Martin Rickwood had breached the restraining order three times in the last 12 months.

Rickwood, 41, of Piccadilly Square, Burnley, pleaded guilty to breach of the restraining order and causing criminal damage to an electricity meter box at his mother's home.

He was jailed for 20 weeks and ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge on release.

Passing sentence, District Judge Alexandra Preston said the order had been put in place to protect the defendant’s mother.

“You have hassled her for money and when she has said no you have caused criminal damage,” said District Judge Preston.

Glenn Anderton, prosecuting, said the defendant’s mother saw him at the window of her house at about 6pm. She opened the window and spoke to him.

“He asked for a cigarette and a drink before he started to become angry,” said Mr Anderton.

“She saw him in the rear garden and then heard a loud bang. He had kicked the bin against the meter box causing damage.

"She said that wasn’t the first time he had turned up at her address that week.”

Mark Williams, offering mitigaton, said the restraining order did not prohibit his client from having contact with his mum.

“The real problem is between him and his mum’s partner which is why he is prohibited from attending the home address,” said Mr Williams.

“She had always maintained that she wanted to have contact with him away from the home.”

Mr Williams said previous breaches had involved contact with the partner.

“On this occasion he went round to speak to his mum having heard that she wanted to speak to him,” said Mr Williams.
