A pub in Old Langho has been revealed as the most popular outdoor dining restaurant in Lancashire, according to an OpenTable survey.

Black Bull Inn, on Old Langho Road, has been mentioned in OpenTable’s top 100 outdoor restaurants.

Its garden, with views of the “rolling fields”, and its “fresh” menu has been praised by reviewers.

It is the only Lancashire site to feature on this list, which has been curated by analysing more than 1.3 million OpenTable diner reviews.

The OpenTable description says: “Tucked away in rural Lancashire, between cloud topped hills, green fields, rolling pastures, and lots of cows sits The Black Bull Inn.

“Nestled in the picturesque village of Old Langho, our stone building has been here since the 1500s.

“Steeped in history it has its own warm welcome to travellers from far and wide.

“The menu is fresh, local and has a nice balance of those ‘pub classics’ but brought up to date in modern and inventive ways.

“[Enjoy] a dog friendly bar area or garden, and plenty of cosy seating available in front of our roaring fires, in the library, or in our gorgeous, beamed, renovated ‘fire barn’.”

Gordon Cartwright, general manager, of the pub said: “It’s amazing news and it’s indicative of the amazing venue we have, in particular our pavilion, comfortable seating and outside pizza oven.

“We are very privileged to have been singled out in Lancashire.”

Mr Cartwright says the amazing countryside views are a highlight of the Black Bull.

“The outdoor space is really relaxing and quiet,” he said.

“It has been described as a jewel that is nestled in the countryside. It is also a bit of a sun trap.”

The outdoor space was transformed after lockdown, fitted with a large stretch tent, known as 'The Pavilion', a new paved terrace area with outdoor heating and blankets.

As well as ‘traditional’ pub classic dishes, such as fish and chips, the pub also serves more adventurous dishes such as lobster mousse.

Diners can also enjoy a pizza fresh from the pub’s outdoor pizza oven.

He said: “It is a really unique outdoor dining experience.

“The Black Bull is the place to go if you are looking for a superb choice, with food that is made from scratch, and authentic dining experience.

“We sell more than just your standard pub dishes. We have restaurant-style food that is considered to be ‘more adventurious’ than your standard ‘pub grub’.

According to Mr Cartwright, an eclectic mix of customers visit the pub, including our four-legged friends.

He said: “The demographic mix is incredible. There is a real mix of people here and we welcome everybody and we don’t have a ‘typical’ type of customer.

“We have a dog menu, with steak pie, sausages and a mini Sunday roast on the menu.

“I have only been working here for a matter of days but have alredy seen a variety of dogs through our door – it is very popular among pet owners.”
