A Brierfield café at the indoor active play area is the latest business to receive a Recipe 4 Health Bronze Award.

Funda Land, which is based at The Leisure Box, has been commended by Pendle Borough Council and Lancashire County Council for serving 'fresh and healthy food' to its customers.

The Recipe 4 Health scheme rewards food businesses which offer a range of healthier snacks and meals, including salads, food with lower salt and sugar, grilled dishes, smaller portions and water as an option if people want to avoid sugary fizzy drinks.

Leader of Pendle Council, Councillor Asjad Mahmood, said: “In partnership with Lancashire County Council, our Recipe 4 Health Award is constantly extending across the borough.

“The scheme helps to address child poverty for those who might not have access to nutritious food at home.

“It has been successfully running for more than six months now, with 21 cafes and takeaways having achieved the bronze award so far – and many now working towards their silver.

"I want to congratulate everyone who has received the awards.”

Jamal Dermott, from Lancashire County Council, is helping to expand the scheme in Pendle.

He said: “We are urging food businesses to sign up to the scheme which has many free benefits.

“These include free publicity, a listing on the council’s website, a free masterclass and the potential to win a food contract worth up to £7,000 for the Pendle Holiday Activities and Food for children during school holidays.”

Pendle Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, Health & Wellbeing, Cllr Mohammad Ammer, added: “We secured external funding for the scheme, which is designed to help tackle obesity and other health issues.

“We are asking people to please support the businesses on the scheme and make healthier choices when buying food, drinks and takeaways.”
