Students at schools around the country now follow this craze - which was very much once an American institution.

We know that some East Lancashire pupils have already enjoyed this year's event, dressed up in their finest frocks, smart suits and arriving in lavish modes of transport.

But this got us to thinking about prom nights in years gone by so we headed into the archives to look at some proms from 2016.

Certainly it seems that when it comes to marking the end of high school, East Lancashire pupils go all out to make it a night to remember with stretch limos, helicopters and even fire engines all part of the fun.
