A huge emergency services presence has been spotted on a main road in Burnley.

Ambulances, paramedic vehicles, police cars and fire engines have been sent to Colne Road this evening (Friday, July 7).

Police have closed the road from the junctions of Barden Lane and Newman Street going towards Brierfield.

It is not yet known what kind of incident they are attending to but a long row of emergency vehicles can be seen lining the pavement close to the KFC. 

A spokesperson for the police said: "We are currently at the scene of a road closure on Colne Road, Burnley.

"The road is closed from the junctions of Barden Lane and Newman Street going towards Brierfield. The opposite direction towards Burnley is still open.

"Please find alternative routes and avoid the area if possible."
