A 22-year-old ‘fun-loving, outgoing’ woman is now out of a coma following a ‘horror crash’ in Cyprus that left her with a serious head injury.

Ellie Horrocks, who attended Runshaw College in Chorley, went to ‘fulfil her dreams’ of travelling on an adventure to the island in May.

Leanne Horrocks – Ellie’s mum – set up a GoFundMe in a desperate bid to bring her daughter home to take her to a specialist neurology hospital in the UK.

And as a result of fundraising efforts, preparations are now being made to bring Ellie back home via an air ambulance.

Mrs Horrocks says that it would have been ‘impossible’ to bring Ellie back home, without ‘everyone’s kind help and support’.

Mrs Horrocks said: “The doctor is pleased with her progress although she still has a long road of recovery ahead of her.

“Nicosia New General Hospital are liaising with us and a UK hospital in order that arrangements can be made to bring Ellie back home via air ambulance.

“The fundraiser has ensured that Ellie can be repatriated.

“It would have been impossible without everyone’s kind help and support.

“Preparations are being made as a result of the fundraising.

“Ellie is only just out of the coma and being assessed.”

The GoFundMe page was able to raise a staggering £68,809 in a matter of days.

The ‘kind’ and ‘creative’ young woman was involved in the major accident on June 26, where she was then taken to the intensive care unit at Nicosia Hospital.

Ellie’s aunt, Sarah Horrocks previously said that the 22-year-old wanted to experience the world and had hired a buggy to see the sunset at 9.30pm last Monday, when she ‘swerved to miss a car’.

She has since been supported by her family, including her mum and brother who flew out to Cyprus to be with her.

Ellie, from Westhoughton, has also suffered a fractured spinal cord and collarbone, and the funds will not only bring Ellie home, but help with any medical treatment.

Ellie went to school at St Joseph's in Horwich and has been described as ‘full of life’.

Donations can still be made here (www.gofundme.com/f/please-help-ellie-get-home) to help Ellie receive the treatment she needs.
