A new Waterstones book shop is to open in Blackburn town centre.

Signage has gone up in the Mall announcing the launch of the bookstore at the site of the former WH Smith.

It is unsure at this stage when it will open.

This is not the first time the town has had a Waterstones.

A Waterstones Sales Outlet opened in 2013 at the site of the former Toymaster outlet in King William Street but closed three years later.

Following the closure of WH Smith in 2020, Blackburn was left with only one official store selling books – The Works.

Waterstones will be the only dedicated book shop in the town.

This stretch of stores in the Mall has seen several changes in the past two years.

Greggs opened a store with seating, next the Primark store last year.

However, earlier this summer it was announced designer fashion store Tessuti would close.

It was one of several branches to shut across the region.
