A man arrested in connection with an assault in Rishton has been bailed.

Police were called to George Street on Saturday (June 17) after receiving reports that a 28-year-old man has suffered head injuries in an assault. 

A 38-year-old man and a 35-year-old man were both arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

The 35-year-old was eliminated from the police investigation last night (Monday June 19), while the 38-year-old remained in custody.

However, this morning, police granted bail to the 38-year-old man.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Lancashire Police have released on bail a 38-year-old man who had been arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm in connection with an assault in George Street, Rishton.

"The assault happened in the early hours of Saturday, June 17, near to the Roebuck pub, with a 28-year-old man suffering serious head injuries. He remains in hospital.

"Our enquiries are very much ongoing and we continue to appeal for witnesses to the assault.

"A 35-year-old man arrested earlier in the investigation, has been eliminated from the enquiry."
