Channel 4 has responded after reports that The Big Breakfast won't be back in 2023.

The breakfast show, which originally aired from 1992 to 2002 and was presented by the likes of Chris Evans and Gaby Roslin, was back for a one off special for Channel 4’s Black to Front project in 2021. It was hosted by Mo Gilligan and Blackburn’s AJ Odudu.

In 2022 the show returned for four episodes in the summer.

Channel 4 has now revealed that the show will not return to our screens this year but has not ruled out any episodes in the future.

This is despite the episodes being well received by viewers, who took to social media to praise it when the show aired.

A spokesperson for Channel 4 said: “Although there are no shows planned for this year The Big Breakfast may well return in the future.”

Earlier this month it was announced that bafta-winning The Big Nastie Show will not return for a sixth season.

Grime MC Big Narstie co-hosted the late-night entertainment series with comedian Mo Gilligan from 2018.

Filmed in front of a live studio audience, the pair were joined by celebrity guests as they presented segments on the news of the week, TV, showbiz, trends, phone-ins and food.

AJ is to host the reboot of Big Brother, set to air on ITV this year, alongside Will Best.

Following the news, former Strictly Come Dancing contestant AJ said: “I’m so excited to finally be able to say that, yes: I’m hosting Big Brother! I couldn't be happier.

"Following in the footsteps of some of my favourite broadcasting legends to front such an iconic show is an absolute honour - and to do it alongside my amazing friend Will is the icing on the cake.”
