A man has been charged after a push bike was stolen from a garden.

Grant Sandiford, 37, of Bold Street, Fleetwood, has been charged with theft of pedal cycle, possession of Class A drugs, assault, criminal damage, and police assault.

On Tuesday afternoon (June 13), officers from Wyre Neighbourhood Police Team and Taskforce were flagged down by a passing motorist.

The motorist told police a man stole a pushbike from a nearby garden in Fleetwood.

Officers found the man but he fled towards the Mount which sparked a chase involving police and members of the public who directed them towards the suspect.

The man was detained and arrested and will appear at Blackpool Magistrates Court.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Whilst on routine patrol on Tuesday afternoon, officers from Wyre NHPT and Taskforce were flagged down by a passing motorist who pointed out a male having just stolen a push bike from a nearby garden.

“The officers located the male but he managed to evade them making onto the Mount.

“As he exited the Mount onto the Promenade, officers were joined by other members of the public who directed them and joined in the foot pursuit of the male who was subsequently detained and arrested nearby.

“Wyre NHPT would like to thank all those involved in this incident who gave updates of the male’s location and assisted officers.

“Without the publics support here the male may well have gone undetected.

“37-year-old Grant Sandiford of Bold Street Fleetwood has been charged with theft of pedal cycle, possession of class A drugs, assault, criminal damage and assault police.

“Sandiford was remanded in custody to appear before Blackpool Magistrates Court.”
