This great photo of life inside a textile mill was originally issued by the Cotton Board.

It shows the Premier Mill in Great Harwood run by Higham’s Limited where the latest automation had been introduced.

According to the official caption ‘the girl is a battery filler in the weaving department’. The looms had all been fitted with Picanol automatics which resulted in a much higher rate of cloth output than had previously been possible.

We don’t have a date for the photo and were hoping that Looking Back readers who might have worked at the Premier Mill could help us out. Email bygones@nqnw.co.uk or leave a comment
