A one woman play, written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and inspired the hit BBC TV series of the same name, is coming to Lancashire this week.

This Thursday, The Stage Door in Longridge will be holding two screenings of the critically acclaimed one-woman stage show ‘Fleabag’.

The screenings are live recordings from the performance of the show at The National Theatre, and have been released in partnership with venues across the UK that meet the National Theatre’s standard of requirements for broadcast.

The Stage Door boasts a huge screen that fills an entire wall in the venue and a state-of-the-art sound system that will allow the viewer to be fully immersed in the performance and feel like they are really at the live show.

Fleabag is a rip-roaring account of some sort of woman living her sort of life.

It is a monologue which follows the central character Fleabag over three days as her life unravels.

Her best friend, Boo, has been tragically killed in a road accident leaving behind their guinea pig themed café, which is in dire economic straits.

She might be willing to prostitute herself to save the café, if society didn’t deem this highly immoral.

To add insult to injury, her boyfriend Harry has left her, and her conviction he’ll be back within a fortnight is slowly waning.

She could ask her sister for the money, but they’re not all that close, in part due to the demands of family life.

On the surface Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally underdeveloped and narcissistic, but slowly her vulnerability emerges, and some uncomfortable home truths are revealed.

Qualifying for National Theatre Live performances has been a huge accolade to the newly opened Longridge venue, offering a form of entertainment that is inspired and different from what is currently on offer locally.

It’s an opportunity to bring hugely successful live performances to audiences that need travel no further than The Stage Door, to sit back in comfort to enjoy the show.

The screenings will be taking place on June 15 with the first screening taking place at 5.15pm and the second screening at 8.30pm.
