A number of drivers were stopped over the weekend as officers targeted vehicles entering Lancashire.
On Friday (June 2), officers from Rural Task Force stopped an uninsured car and the driver also failed a drug side road test.
Another car was spotted with false number plates and was found to been used for the theft of horse boxes.
The vehicle was seized but the driver, who was under investigation for a number of burglary offences in Greater Manchester, was not traced.
A spokesperson for the police said: “Meanwhile in Whitworth, our team sighted a vehicle, a Kia Sorento on false number plates which was identified as being responsible for theft of horse boxes…..the occupants made a quick getaway and unfortunately were not traced, but the vehicle was seized.
“Yesterday, on Sunday evening (June 4), officers have responded to a vehicle (Mercedes Sprinter Van) entering Lancashire on false number plates.
“On requesting the vehicle to stop in Haslingden it has made off, but after a short pursuit the driver stopped on the A56, Rising Bridge and gave it legs thinking he would be better off on foot.
“He didn’t get far as he was quickly detained in some thick brambles! The van turned out to be stolen from GMP so he was arrested for failing to stop for police, theft of motor vehicle along with other motoring offences, oh, and he failed a roadside drug wipe for cannabis too!
“A search of the vehicle turned up more number plates, one set being used to commit rural thefts of plant machinery so was further arrested.”
