A Lancashire-based start-up has won two awards at the North West finals of the Start-Up Awards 2023.

The White House Deaf Specialist Provisions is part of Deaf Village North West, which provides supported accommodation and a community for young deaf adults as part of a major improvement to facilities attached to the School of Sign Language in Blackburn.

It completes a specialist deaf hub aimed at reducing social isolation for those with hearing problems, and facilities comprise self-contained living quarters and communal space with views over the valley and woodland.

“It’s been an honour and a pleasure to read the stories of those individuals from across the North West who have spotted the opportunity and taken the risk to launch their own venture, especially at a time when the economy is still fragile after the Covid pandemic.”
