An animal sanctuary is looking for donations to help a neglected bulldog pup.

On Wednesday morning, three-month-old Lila was brought to Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary as a stray via a local vet.

Volunteers at the Edenfield sanctuary found that the beautiful pup had been neglected and was going to need a lot of care to help her back to full health.

Bleakholt staff say they will take care of Lila but are now looking for donations to help with the cost of vets bills.

A spokesperson for the sanctuary said on Wednesday: "This is a desperately sad case.

"This morning, three-month old Lila was brought in as a stray via a vet.

"She is a beautiful bulldog but she has been neglected and it's going to be a long road back to health for her.

"We, of course, will take care of her and we know times are difficult but if anyone can donate towards Lila's treatment, it will be a big help.

"We will post updates every week or two so you can see how Lila is doing and how the money is being spent on nursing this beautiful girl back to a full recovery."

Anyone wishing to donate can do so via this link https://www.bleakholt.org/help/donating/

Bleakholt will not be accepting adoption applications yet, as Lila has a long way to go before she is fully ready to be rehomed.
