Blackburn charity Rummage Rescuers CIC has been chosen to receive a grant from the first round of the Miller Homes Community Fund.

The initiative was set up by the builder in September 2022, for local groups to have the opportunity to apply for donations between a minimum of £250 and a maximum of £2,000.

The second round of applications are currently being processed and are to be announced shortly, with more funding to be allocated across the North West.

Rummage Rescuers CIC was established in 2015 to address local needs in the community of Mill Hill.

Thanks to generous donors and funding, the organisation has since expanded to have additional stores in Blackburn town centre and two warehouses.

The group’s main objective is to help people in crisis, particularly those on a tight budget, by providing them with the items they need, as well as provide van deliveries to reach the wider Blackburn and Darwen communities.

The organisation applied for the first round of funding contributions in the autumn of last year, in hopes of obtaining money to their community work, and provide help to locals in the area.

Rummage Rescuers CIC was granted £500 in funding from Miller Homes, which will go towards their ‘school uniform project’.

The initiative focuses on making use of pre-loved uniforms whenever possible, while also recognising the need to purchase certain pieces of uniform or shoes for children facing poverty.

The project aims to ensure that every child has access to appropriate school attire, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for education.

Susan Haworth, board member at Rummage Rescuers, said: “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Miller Homes for their generous funding.

"Their support has made a significant impact in our efforts, and we are now able to address the pressing needs of individuals and families who are facing economic hardship.

“It is crucial to recognise the importance of donating to local charity shops, as they serve as lifelines for those struggling with poverty.

"These shops provide affordable options for individuals on limited budgets, ensuring they can access essential items and improve their quality of life.”

Clare Noakes, Miller Homes’ sales director for the North West, said: “We are proud to contribute funding to Rummage Rescuers and support their impactful work in helping those in need.

"Through our partnership, we aim to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals facing challenging circumstances.

"Together, we can create a brighter future and inspire hope within our communities.”

Across the UK, 96 community groups have been supported by the Miller Homes Community Fund so far.

The second round of applications has now closed. New funding will be allocated to a number of charity and community groups across the North West within the next few weeks.
