Two people have been rescued after a huge fire engulfed a flat above a pub in Fleetwood.

Eight fire engines were called to Mount Road in Fleetwood after a fire broke out inside a flat, above the Mount Hotel pub at around 5.34pm on Wednesday (May 24).

The fire service has also shared drone photos of the building, which shows the damage left to its roof.

Fire engines from Fleetwood, St Annes, Preesall, Bispham, Bamber Bridge, Blackpool, South Shore, and Preston, together with two aerial ladder platforms from Blackpool and Fleetwood, attended the fire.

Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and two hose reels to put the fire out.

Two people were rescued by crews and placed in the care of North West Ambulance Service.

In the latest update, issued at 10.25pm, firefighters said they are likely to be at the site of the fire overnight.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Eight fire engines from Fleetwood, St Annes, Preesall, Bispham, Bamber Bridge, Blackpool, South Shore, and Preston, together with two aerial ladder platforms from Blackpool and Fleetwood, attended a commercial building fire on Mount Road, Fleetwood.

!The incident involved a combined residential and commercial building approximately 30x20m in size.

“Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire. Two casualties were rescued by crews and placed in the care of North West Ambulance Service.

“Update 6.22 – crews are likely to remain in attendance for some time. Please avoid the area. If you are affected by smoke, keep windows and doors closed.

“Update 9.15 – this incident has now been reduced to six pumps and two aerial ladder platforms.

“Update 10.25 – This incident has now been reduced to two pumps and two aerial ladder platforms. We are likely to maintain a presence throughout the night damping down the fire-affected areas.”
