Passengers have been warned of train cancellations and delays between Clitheroe and Blackburn, after a person died on the tracks.

Officers were called to Clitheroe at around 12.39pm to reports of a casualty on the tracks. 

Sadly, the person has died. The incident is not being treated as suspicious. 

Some lines are blocked and train services running through these stations are expected to be cancelled or delayed

Train services are unable to run between Clitheroe and Blackburn in both directions.

The 12.23 from Clitheroe to Blackburn has terminated at Langho and the 11.21 from Rochdale to Clitheroe has terminated at Blackburn.

The disruption is expected to last until at least 3.30pm. It is not yet known what the “incident” is but the British Transport Police has been approached for comment.

A spokesperson for Northern said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Clitheroe and Blackburn some lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "“Officers were called to the line in Clitheroe at 12.39pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
