THERE was a time when ‘pillboxes’- part of wartime defences - could be seen all across East Lancashire.
This photo, taken in October 1970, shows one such pillbox off Preston New Road in Blackburn.
The concrete ‘bunkers’ complete with narrow slits to allow the soldiers inside to fire upon enemy troops mainly dated to 1940 when around 28,000 of them were constructed around Britain as part of anti-invasion plans.
Today the pillboxes are a relatively rare sight. Do you remember this one off Preston New Road? Where can any pillboxes still be seen in East Lancashire?
