A Blackburn charity that donated 'baby packs' to bereaved parents was presented with a Mayor's award at the town hall.

Representatives from Blackburn UK Trust were presented the honour by the borough's Mayor, Cllr Suleman Khonat.

The award recognises the 'outstanding contribution made by the charity to the local community of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and the UK'.

Blackburn UK Trust has been involved in number of campaigns in recent years, most notably a recent project for parents who have lost a newborn baby.  

Here, parents are given baby bereavement packs designed by volunteers of Blackburn UK Trust which aims to provide them with 'strength, faith and patience to deal with this painful loss'.

The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Cllr Khonat, said: "We need to support these families during the most challenging time.

"We hope this act of kindness from Blackburn UK Trust can help the families through the grieving process."

Mufti Saleh Dhanchora, who is the charity's chair, said it has now donated hundreds of packages across NHS Trust hospitals, including the Royal Blackburn Hospital, Lancashire Women's & Newborn Centre, Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield; St. George's Hospital, Whittington Health NHS Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust in London.

For the past 19 years, through donors, volunteers, supporters and well-wishers, Blackburn UK Trust says it has has prioritised offering support and engagement with those who need help in the UK or worldwide.
