A MAN verbally abused police who attended on his street following reports of an ongoing fight.

Blackburn magistrates heard Craig McCulloch was ordered to go back inside his home and after complying he then started to shout abuse and swear out of the window.

McCulloch, 44, of Sandon Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour and admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a suspended sentence order. He was fined £80 for each offence.

Antonia Walters, prosecuting, said police attended Sandon Street on Tuesday evening. McCulloch was on the street shouting and swearing and was ordered indoors.

"He went in but continued to shout and swear from the window," said Miss Walters. "He then opened the door and told the officers they would have their work cut out if they tried to lock him up."

She said the police eventually left but returned shortly after and Sandon was back on the street.

He was warned again but continued to shout and swear and was eventually arrested.

Vaqas Latif, defending, said McCulloch lived on Sandon Street with his partner.

He said there were ongoing problems with youths attending the street on quad bikes, playing loud music and generally behaving in an anti-social manner.

"When he came home yesterday some of the youths were sitting on his partner's car," said Mr Latif.

"It is a long-running issue and his emotions got the better of him."
