A MAN bombarded his wife with messages and calls after she ended their relationship.

Blackburn magistrates heard Haroon Anjum eventually turned up at her place of work leaving her feeling upset and embarrassed.

Anjum, 20, of Florida Street, Oldham, pleaded guilty to harassment. He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 20 days Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and 80 hours unpaid work. He was made subject to a restraining order

for 12 months which prohibits any contact with his wife and ordered to pay £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Bilal Saeed, prosecuting, said the victim suspected her husband of cheating on her and their relationship became strained. She was not prepared to stay with him and moved out of their Accrington address and went to live with her parents.

She began receiving messages and calls from him and she estimated there were over 100 messages a day.

"The main contact was that he apologised and wanted them to get back together," said Mr Saeed.

He said the victim was leaving her place of work, an Accrington call centre, when she saw the defendant in his car.

She called for her brother to come and collect her and after she had got in his car the defendant drove alongside them. The brother drove off but Anjum blocked him in with his vehicle.

Mr Saeed said the aggrieved had requested a restraining order.

Zabair Afzal, defending, said his client had wanted to rekindle the relationship and accepted sending the messages although he didn't think it was as many as claimed by his wife.

"When he turned up at her place of work it was to tell her he had moved out of the home they had shared and she needed to collect her belongings," said Mr Afzal.

"He is a man of previous good character who has learned his lesson and will not be appearing before the courts again."
