There is something symbolic about this great photo from 1970 which shows powered looms being looked after by one single worker.
The photo shows a ring spinning frame at Moseley Mill in Darwen. The mill itself was noteworthy as it had been the first new spinning mill to be built in Lancashire in 45 years which became part of the India Mill complex.
The mill was named after the chairman and managing director Arthur Moseley. It was later taken over by textile giants Carrington Viyella and would close in 1991.
Did you work in the mills when these automated looms were introduced? What was the experience of working in a textile mill like? Share your memories by leaving a comment.
