POLICE officers are to be honoured for their bravery in a special awards ceremony.

There will be 17 Pride of Lancashire Bravery awards presented tonight together with presentations to officers from the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service by the Chief Fire Officer Peter Holland and two bravery awards for members of the public.

The Master of Ceremonies for the evening at Barton Grange Hotel, near Preston will be Deputy Chief Fire Officer Paul Richardson and the guest celebrity speaker will be Terry Waite CBE.

Lancashire Constabulary Chief Constable Steve Finnigan said: "The annual Bravery Awards ceremony is one of the most important nights in our calendar as we make special examples of members of the emergency services and members of the public who have carried out very brave acts."

He added: "It makes me feel immensely proud as a Chief Constable that frontline officers and members of the public put themselves into situations in order to protect others or to apprehend offenders."
