Schools have closed and homes are without water due to a burst water pipe in the Ribble Valley.

United Utilities received reports of no water or low water pressure in the BB7 postcode area at 6.10am today (April 25).

The water supply company sent a team to investigate the issue at around 8.10am

“Our team are on their way to investigate and hope to have your taps flowing and toilets flushing again as soon as possible.

“Thanks for your patience whilst we get this sorted.

“We will provide you with an update once we know more.”

At around 9am the company confirmed that the lack of water and is being caused by a burst pipe on West Bradford Road.

The team is working hard to repair the burst pipe and will issue an update once it has been complete.

A spokesperson said: “A burst has been spotted and reported to us on West Bradford Road and we can confirm this to be the cause of no water or low pressure in your area.

“We're on with it and our team will be in the area as soon as possible to get this fixed.

“We will keep you updated as we progress with the repair.”

Two schools are closed as a result of the burst pipe.

These are Chatburn Church of England School, in Chatburn, and Clitheroe Pendle Primary School.

Both schools have cited unexpected loss of water as a reason for this.

A spokesperson for Chatburn Church of England School said: “There is currently no water in Chatburn and some of the wider Clitheroe area.

“School cannot open as we have no toilets, washing facilities or the capacity to make dinners.

“At the moment, there is no indication from United Utilities as to the issue or when the water supply may be restored Sorry for the inconvenience this will cause, but this is entirely beyond our control.”

Just to let you know, for us to keep your taps flowing whilst we complete the repair, we’ll be delivering water to you from a different area and our water tankers will be pumping additional supply into the network. Please be assured, we will still be providing you with the same high standard quality of water.

In an update United Utilities said: "The majority of customers should have some supply, however this may mean water pressure may be lower than normal or you might notice fluctuation during peak times.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience this is causing."
