POLICE are hunting a vandal who threw a rock at a driver's windscreen, causing him to swerve off the road.

The driver, a Darwen man in his 30s, was travelling along Goose House Lane on Friday when the rock was hurled directly at him, possibly from a passing vehicle.

The father-of-four, who does not want to be named, described the moment when the missile hit the driver's side and covered him in shards of glass.

He hit the brakes and swerved, mounting the kerb and hitting a fence.

No-one was hurt in the incident, which caused £100 worth of damage to the car.

The victim said: "I was just opposite Crown Paints when it was thrown and I didn't see anything.

"I just heard this great big bang when it hit the driver's side.

"It was terrifying. It didn't go right through, but smashed the window and covered me in glass.

"It's mindless stupidity. I just want whoever did this to be caught.

"It was only pure luck that someone wasn't hurt."

Police are reviewing CCTV evidence.

Witnesses say the rock was thrown by a man driving a white Ford Transit van in the opposite direction.
