An angry cinema-goer has said he “won’t go back” to an East Lancs venue until it has been refurbished after paying for VIP seats and finding them ripped and torn.

Jonathan Waller, 48, went to Vue Cinema in Blackburn on Easter Sunday with his partner to watch Air, which depicts the journey of basketball legend Michael Jordan with sports company Nike.

After paying £9 per ticket for the VIP seats in a prime location within the cinema, Jonathan was greeted with seats that he described as “tired, torn, and trashed.”

He continued: “My partner and I decided to enjoy some quality time together and eagerly booked two VIP seats to watch the latest movie depicting Michael Jordan’s journey with Nike.

“I fully understand that paying £9 each for a cinema ticket, complete with a luxury, comfortable seat is very reasonable. However, at Vue Blackburn, that simply isn’t the case.

“We sat down and realised all the material had been torn and the armrests were all ripped and torn.

“We paid extra for the comfy seats, the best seats in the house, yet they don’t live up to the billing.”

Jonathan said he has noticed the tiredness of the cinema in Blackburn for a while now and has at times been going to other local cinemas for a better experience.

He said: “We love the cinema but we’ve noticed over the last couple of years we’re having to go to Bolton or Preston just for the quality of the actual cinema itself.

“We stopped going quite a while ago to Blackburn but it’s local, I want to support it, I don’t want to take my business to Bolton or Preston or anywhere else.

“People are going to stay away from that cinema until they get it cleaned up.”

The lack of care given to the seats certainly put a dent in Jonathan’s experience, and said it completely ruined his trip.

He said: “It’s totally ruined. At the moment, we won’t go back until everything has been refurbed. I’ll take my business elsewhere.”

Vue has been approached for comment.
