Voters across Lancashire’s many boroughs will go to the polls on Thursday, May 4, for the upcoming 2023 local elections.

Each of the boroughs holding elections have now published their lists of candidates who are in the running to become councillors.

There are a few notable names who will be seeking re-election to their councils, while some others have stepped down meaning there will be a fresh face elected.

These include current Blackburn with Darwen Council leader Phil Riley, and fellow executive member Quesir Mahmood.

In Hyndburn, incumbent leader Miles Parkinson – who was elected as a Labour candidate before quitting the party and sitting as an independent – is also up for election, and will see whether voters in Altham support him or the party he left.

Against the ongoing national political backdrop, where the Conservatives have seen their popularity plummet and other parties gain suppprt, it will also be interesting to see how this is reflected in local polls.

The big parties are all fielding plenty of candidates across the county, while a number of smaller groups and independent candidates are also in the running.

With many councils being ruled on a knife-edge majority, the outcome of this Spring’s vote could have a big impact on the future direction of many boroughs.

Campaigning is already well underway as parties and candidates lobby the public to try and win their votes ahead of election day.

Voters are also being reminded to ensure they are registered to vote and have valid photo ID to ensure they are not turned away from the polling station.

These are all the candidates standing in every council ward across Lancashire in this year's local elections:
