A 'MINI Glastonbury' festival which will showcase some of the best bands in Pendle is taking place this weekend.

The Summer Out Day' music festival, at Barn-oldswick Town Square, will feature music from seven local bands ranging from rock to folk.

Saturday's event, organi-sed and funded by the Barnoldswick and West Craven Chamber of Trade, will see Revolver Head, Start the Ignition, Sphinkta, Red Confusion, the Bachanalians and four piece Indy band Bashphelt.

However the mini-festival, which is free, will not have alcohol and anyone found with drinks will have them confiscated.

Town councillor Jenny Purcell, of the chamber of trade, said the day offered local bands the chance to put something back into the community.

She said: "The bands are doing this for free and this is a way for them to put something back.

"Many of the local bands will be working behind the scenes too for what we hope will be a highly successful day.

"There will be a wide range of music from folk to rock bands so people can come along and celebrate the summer solstice.

"Many of the members of the chamber have given up their time and offered their skills in the hope that this event will be the first of many to put Barnoldswick on the map.

"The proprietor of the Coffee Corner has designed the posters. This is an event for families and youngsters so anyone with alchol will be dealt with by the police.

"If people are looking for something to do on Saturday they should come along to Barnoldswick's answer to Glastonbury."

An electric guitar, donated by Echo Music, will be the main prize in a raffle.

The police will have a stall at the event, which runs from 1pm to 8pm.

The stage for the free event was donated by Event Staging and Structures Ltd, based on the Ouzledale Foundry site.

There will also be fairground rides and food stalls.
