Fire teams from across the county have been tackling a huge blaze at a car dealership in Preston.

The incident happened overnight at the Inchcape Jaguar Land Rover dealership on Bluebell Way, which caused extensive damage to a section to the building.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue said ten fire engines from Fulwood, Preston, Penwortham, Bamber Bridge, Longridge, Darwen, Blackburn, Hyndburn, and Chorley, together with two aerial ladder platforms from Preston and Hyndburn, attended the fire.

An update at 1am read: “The incident involved a commercial property approximately 100x100m in size. No injuries were reported. Firefighters used two fourteen breathing apparatus, two hose reels, and two jets to extinguish the fire. Crews remain in attendance.

“Firefighters are likely to remain at the scene for some hours. Please avoid the area if possible.”

Area Manager John Rossen said: "My thanks go to all the firefighters who arrrived quickly and worked very hard in arduous conditions and actually managed to suppress the fire and stop it from spreading."

At 3.30am there were nine fire engines in attendance, in addition to several specialist appliances including a stinger and drone team. People were asked to keep windows closed.

Earlier this morning the incident had now been reduced to four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer for Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service, Steve Healey posted: "In attendance at a serious fire at Jaguar Landrover in Preston. Please avoid the area. Our crews have done an incredible job in preventing serious fire spread."
