Pupils and parents from a Rishton School joined people from across the community at a iftar event.

The Hyndburn Academy hosted the Iftar where people were able to enjoy a meal and listen to a recitation from the Quran.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Terry Hurn and wife Jean Hurn joined local religious leaders who spoke about the reasons for fasting in Islam and the shared values across different faiths.

Local businesses donated food, decorations and party supplies.  Hyndburn Academy Year 9 pupil Subhan also performed their poem written about Ramadan.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Nicola Palmer, Head teacher at The Hyndburn Academy, said:  “I am very pleased that we were able to welcome members of our local community together for this week’s iftar event.

"Open to everyone, regardless of faith or background, the occasion was a fantastic opportunity for members of the community to connect and learn more about each other’s lives and cultures.

"I would like to thank everyone who attended for making the iftar such a joyful celebration, as well as all the local businesses who donated so generously.

"We very much look forward to making the iftar at The Hyndburn Academy an annual tradition.”
