Burnley Council's new chief executive to be paid £118,151 a year

THE newly-appointed chief executive of Burnley borough will be paid £118,151 a year,

Lukman Patel's salary is revealed in the papers for an extraordinary full council meeting of the authority on April 5 to confirm his appointment.

He will succeed the borough's current town hall boss Mick Cartledge in August.

Mr Patel who has worked for Burnley Council since 2015 is currently its chief operating officer.

The papers for the meeting reveal that five candidates applied for the job and two were interviewed.

The say: "The post was advertised externally through relevant media and in addition the North West Employers Organisation publicised the vacancy through their networks with the

authorities in the North West.

"A total of five applications were received for the position and the appointments committee agreed on February 28 that four should be longlisted.

"The appointments committee agreed that three candidates be shortlisted to progress to the assessment centre.

"The assessment centre took place on March 20 and involved a number of panels and exercises designed to test the suitability of candidates for the post.

"One of the candidates withdrew their application on the day of the assessments.

"Two candidates progressed to the final interview stage.

"The final interviews were held on Tuesday March 21.

"Following the conclusion of the interview process the appointments committee agreed that Lukman Patel should be recommended for appointment on the agreed salary of £118,151.

"Lukman Patel will commence in the role of chief executive with effect from August 1."
