Police have made an arrest after a man was attacked with a weapon in Blackburn.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon (Friday March 24) in the Fawcett Close area in the town.

An air ambulance landed on the estate and police had cordoned off the area behind St Wilfrid’s C of E Academy on Duckworth Street.

The victim suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

Today (Saturday March 25) police said they had arrested a man in Accrington.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called to Fawcett Close at around 3.20pm to a report that a man had been attacked with a weapon and had suffered serious injuries.

“Officers arrested a 31-year-old man in Accrington in the early hours of this morning (March 25) and he is currently in custody.

“The victim remains in hospital for treatment to his injuries.

“We continue to appeal for witnesses and information about the attack.
