An annual Ribble Valley Truck Run is coming to the borough on Easter Sunday, raising donations for a local charity.

On April 9, more than 70 trucks will take part in a truck run across the Ribble Valley to raise vital funds for Friends of Serenity.

Matthew Hargreaves, 35, from Clitheroe, is an organiser of the event alongside several others and he said the events get bigger year on year and he can’t wait for it to return.

He said: “We started as a group of friends in 2020, one of our friends passed away and we decided to do a truck run to raise money in his name.

“Originally we started it as a group of his friends including myself, we organised a truck run and picked a charity and away we go, it went from there and it just seems to get bigger and bigger, year on year.

“It is an annual event and previously we have raised money for Juvenile Diabetes charity, JDRF, and last year we raised money for the MS Society and the first year we did it for the Air Ambulance as well.

“This time the proceeds are going to the Friends of Serenity.

“They are based at the Women and New-born centre at Burnley Hospital, and they provide comfort to bereaved parents to make a devastating time a little gentler and I have a friend who had a still born baby and they really helped them as a family.

“We are hoping to raise quite a lot of money for them.”

Matthew said himself and the other members of the Ribble Valley Truck Run team are well underway with the event preparations and there are more than 70 trucks taking part.

He said: “We are well on with getting it all sorted and we are only two weeks away with it taking place on Easter Sunday.

“At present I have just over 70 trucks registered for the event but in the next two weeks we are hoping we will have more, in previous years we have had between 100 and 130 vehicles and we also have Lancashire Fire and Rescue involved who are going to be putting some fire engines in.

“In two weeks’ time, not everyone lets me know they are coming, so the day before I will probably get 20 or 30 entries, so we are looking at between 110 and 130 vehicles involved.”

The truck run will start at Gisburn Auction Mart at 1pm going onto Chatburn, Billington, Whalley, Barrow and Clitheroe, with two laps around Clitheroe, ending at Clitheroe Hospital.

Not only are the Ribble Valley Truck Run team hosting the event, but they will also be selling car air fresheners to raise money and are going to be giving out cream eggs and easter eggs to young children watching.
