An East Lancashire boy is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his skiing idol after winning a competition.
Isaac Platt, 11, from Darwen, won a gold medal in the annual North West Ski Federation Schools Race 2023, which is held at Pendle Ski Club in Sabden.
He won the key stage two junior primary school championship, in the individual boys junior category.
Mum, Debbie Platt, said the St Barnabas School pupil was proud of himself after winning the race on Saturday (March 18).
She said: “He beat children from schools all across the north west – he’s pretty good.
“When he got the medal he was so happy and proud of himself – it’s so nice when their hard work pays off.
“The school are proud too as he’s won a title for them.”
Debbie says Isaac trains two times a week and has been skiing since the age of three. She said he looks up to Chorley’s Olympian alpine ski racer Dave Ryding, who is a member of Pendle Ski Club.
Debbie said: “The race he took part in was a slalom, similar to the type of skiing that Dave Ryding does.
“He really looks up to Dave, especially considering he started training on a dry slope and is now competing at the highest level in the world.
“Isaac would love to enter the Olympics and other big tournaments for himself one day.
“This win just shows how hard he has been training. I am so proud of him and the resilience and hard work he puts in.”
