Two men have been arrested after a number of cars were tampered with overnight.

People living in Mercer Drive and Sawley Drive in Great Harwood were disturbed by police activity in the very early hours of this morning (Friday March 17) as officers swarmed the area following reports of two suspicious males trying to break into cars. 

The two men were caught in the act and chased by police, before being apprehended and taken into custody.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Residents around Mercer Drive and Sawley Drive, Great Harwood may have been disturbed by police activity overnight.

"At around 2.30am we were alerted by a member of the public to an alarm going off and two suspicious males being seen on the street.

"A large response from local officers resulted in offenders being observed in the act of breaking into a car.

"They were chased down by the team sergeant and other officers.

"Two males remain in custody for vehicle crime offences and we will provide further updates when we can."
