A Ribble Valley-based band has released a new EP today (March 17) and one track is said to be a “middle finger” to the way northerners have been treated by the government.

Clitheroe-based four-man band The Ruby Tuesdays has released ‘Food For Thought’ with five tracks called: Blacklights, Falling Apart, She’s Got You, Fool For Love and Feel So Good.

The band, which consists of Wilpshire’s Matty Hall, Clitheroe’s William Tucker and James Baird, and Oswaldtwistle’s Joshua Haworth, have been together since 2017.

They were approached by a record label to create this EP following a gig in Manchester last year.

Singer and guitarist William, better known as Tucker, said he can’t wait for the public to hear the new music.

He said: “These tracks are really good and we really hope it will push our music and band to the next level.

“These tracks feel more rounded and better crafted. I really feel like we have come into our own with this EP.

“We recorded these tracks in March last year so it’s a bit of a relief that we can finally release them. We held onto them for so long.”

While one song,  Fool for Love, is about the “power of women and the power they hold” most of the other songs are a reflection of northern life and how the region “has been forgotten”.

He said: “We have all lived and grown up in the area.

“Some of tracks are more narrative driven about what it is like to live in the north and how we can sometimes feel forgotten.

“Three of us are self-employed and we really have to graft to make a living.

“The songs also reflect how we navigate the problems and how there is something special about being from where we are from.

“There is so much talent and creativity in Clitheroe but it feels like you have to live in London or another big city to get some recognition.”

Tucker says one song in particular, Falling Apart, reflects the bands thoughts and feelings on how the government has treated the north in recent years.

He said: “Falling Apart is a middle finger to the way life has been going up here and the way the government has been using our money.

“It’s just anger and pure energy.”

The band has even created a music video for Feel So Good which has already amassed more than 2,000 views on YouTube.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Feel So Good is a blistering fever of gritty instrumentation and powerful vocal arrangements and features the group’s best work to date.

“This track is the epitome of what makes heavy hitting rock music, a fusion of past and present influences to create a rock anthem.”

Their debut single ‘Who You Running From’ was streamed more than 20,000 times within the first week of its release.

The band’s sophomore single ‘Rivers of Gold’ landed at number five on the UK’s official vinyl single’s chart, and debuted on ITV’s Granada Reports alongside a live performance and interview with the band.

All of this was done completely independently, prior to any help of a label or management.
