An East Lancashire astrologer, known for her horoscope column and association with the National Lottery which made her a household name, has died aged 80.
Accrington-born Mystic Meg, real name is Margaret Lake, died this morning (March 9) after being to admitted to hospital with flu according to a national newspaper.
The astrologer wrote a horoscope column for The Sun for nearly 23 years.
Her agent Dave Shapland, said: “Without any question, she was Britain’s most famous astrologer by a million miles.
“Nobody came close to Meg in that respect. She was followed by millions in this country and also around the world.
“She even became part of the English language – if a politician, somebody from showbiz or ordinary people in the street are asked a tricky question they will say ‘Who do you think I am, Mystic Meg?’
“It shows what an impact she made.”
Margaret was a well-recognised TV figure in the 1990s was known as the face of the National Lottery.
She came to Blackburn in 2003 to launch a new lottery to raise funds for the East Lancashire Hospice.
Here she spoke about her East Lancashire roots and how she once lived in a terraced house in Russia Street, Accrington
Speaking to Lancashire Telegraph she said: "I was born in Accrington and lived there until I was two and then we moved away to Oldham.
“I’ve never been back to the house on Russia Street but I love the name.
“My great grandmother was Russian and she used to live in Haslingden.”
