Supporters of a hospice are gearing up for a floating lantern ceremony and walk, in memory of loved ones.
Pendleside Hospice is hosting its first Memories on the Lake event, sponsored by Alderson & Horan Funeral Services, on Saturday, May 20.
The event will begin as the sun sets on the evening sky in Thompson Park in Burnley where people will set off their personalised floating lanterns.
An optional 5K sponsored memory walk will take place at 6pm from Thompson Park along the Leeds and Liverpool canal before the memorial service at 8pm. The walk is on towpaths and is pram and wheelchair accessible.
A minimum suggested donation for a memorial floating lantern is £10 and the lanterns, made from eco-friendly rice paper, will be cleaned up after the event by staff and volunteers so the LED candles can be reused and recycled.
Each kit contains a floating lantern kit with an LED candle, a commemorative 35th anniversary memory pin badge, and a personalisation station where you can add your message to remember your loved one.
A spokesperson for the hospice said: “As the sun begins to set on the evening sky in Thompson Park, we will begin to launch your personalised floating lanterns carrying memories, love and happiness out into the water as we light the lake together.
“Come experience our special 35th anniversary event - our first Memories on the Lake event, it’s a night you’ll never forget.
“Experience the wonder with an incredible experience and celebrate life together. Memories on the Lake brings together individuals from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life to join in one emotional and memorable night. Come light up the Lake.
“Enjoy the serene atmosphere whilst reflecting on memories. It will be an evening of entertainment and reflection during our memory service starting from 8pm, relax and feel the peace of all those around you as you observe and take in the beautiful sight of hundreds of lanterns on the lake.”
