We all know prices have gone up but maybe it's time to take a step back and realise some things are simply out of reach now.

I like the odd takeaway. I am not going to shy away from it and pretend that we should all be on some major health drive. As part of a balanced diet I can’t see the big deal.

Also, I tend to be one those folks that tends not to put on any weight no matter how much I eat.

See, I like KFC and I was into the stunned halal chicken long before it was ‘cool’. You know, before a Muslim-owned company acquired a branch and people forgot about 'the issues'. Amazingly, the protests stopped overnight.

However, as I ventured into a Kentucky Fried Chicken recently, I was struck by the price of one piece of chicken - it was £1.99. Yes, two quid for one single piece of chicken.

I had not noticed this price before and it may have been like this for a while. I like the colonel’s secret recipe like the next man but I think they are just milking the masses now.

To top it all off are they counting the fries now? It can’t possibly be morally right to hand over about 20 chips and charge £1.49.

I am not going to single out KFC here, because everyone else is doing it too. A fillet at McDonald’s will cost me upwards of £3.50. I mean, it is good, but you really need three to feel full.

Pizza Hut are no better. A basic 9 inch costs a tenner. I can hear people telling me I should opt for the meal deals but it doesn’t really help me out much does it? I will save about 50p but am then left with a bucket of cola that I don’t drink.

Sometimes you just want the bare minimum but they are now pricing us out of the smaller meals. I can see why they do this. If they have your attention then they want at least £7. Anything else and you are just wasting their packaging, the service and their energy.

Whilst I realise that prices are going up and we are in the midst of a major cost of living crisis I would really expect the bigger companies not to take advantage of the common man who wanders into your establishments on the occasional Saturday to be part of the American dream for just one day. Well, it was good while it lasted I suppose.
