A major road was closed for several hours overnight after a man was taken to hospital with a head injury.

An ambulance was called to Burnley Road East in Waterfoot last night (February 26) after a man suffered a head injury.

The ambulance service called the police after they arrived before the man was taken to hospital.

Police announced the road closure last night. This morning, officers confirmed the road has re-opened.

A spokesperson for the police said: “We were called by the Ambulance Service around 9pm yesterday (Sunday, February 26) to a report of a man with a head injury in Burnley Road East, Waterfoot.

“The man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.”

The ambulance service has been contacted for further comment.
