Temporary road closures will take place from Monday as part of the creation of a multi-million new road scheme.

Between junctions one and three of the M55 will be closed in both directions, from 8pm to 5am each night from Monday (February 27) to Wednesday (March 1) for work on the new Preston Western Distributor Road scheme, including installing cables and lighting.

Blackpool Road will be closed eastbound between the junction with Riversway and Aldfield Avenue in Lea from 00.01am on Monday February 27 until 5am on Monday March 6. This closure will be in place 24 hours a day.

The westbound carriageway on Blackpool Road will not be affected. The closure is needed to complete the new section of carriageway linking the new roundabout to Blackpool Road.

Please follow the signed diversion routes and plan your journey ahead.

A spokesperson for  Lancashire County Council said: "The county council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks you for your patience during the construction of the new road."

These closures are part of the final stages of work on the Preston Western Distributor road scheme which will link Preston and parts of the Fylde to a new junction on the M55 motorway.

It will be officially known as Edith Rigby Way, in honour of Preston’s most famous suffragette, who dedicated most of her life to fighting for women’s rights, particularly those of working-class women.
