A “drunken yob” punched a man in the face in an unprovoked attack, leaving him with a broken jaw.
Logan Page needed a metal plate fitting following the assault by James Davidson, which took place in the Bee Hive pub on Preston Old Road, Blackburn.
Preston Crown Court heard that on April 13 2021, Mr Page had gone for a drink in the pub on his own and had been in the beer garden for around three hours.
Prosecuting, Lisa Worsley said Mr Page had been pretty drunk and the last thing he remembers is waking up on the pub floor surrounded by police who were tending to his wounds.
Ms Worsley said the pub landlord, Barry Brook, had been in the kitchen at the time and had seen Davidson on the CCTV.
She said: “He saw the victim walking towards the defendant Mr Davidson, who was with some others, who were on the balcony in the pub.
“The defendant didn’t receive any threat from the victim and he then just started to punch him in the face.
“He hit him a number of times to the head and body but mostly to the face until Mr Logan collapsed on the floor.”
It was heard that Davidson, 30, left the pub along with his father, who told Mr Brook that his son “hadn’t done anything”.
The police were called and Davidson was arrested but answered no comment during his interview.
As a result of the attack, Mr Page was left a broken jaw that required a metal plate, and was afraid to go out and socialise.
Defending, Mark Stephenson said his client was genuinely remorseful and had a problem with drink, and by committing such an act had placed his family in a difficult situation.
He said: “He is the primary carer for his father and should he be sent to prison today his mother will have to give up work to look after him. He feels extremely guilty for putting her in that position and he expresses remorse for his actions.
“He knows full well he was the one at fault and jaded with alcohol perceived there to be a threat.”
Judge Guy Mathieson, sentencing, said: “Two words spring to mind when I read these papers, and they are ‘drunken yob’.
“You have been violent in the past when you’ve been in drink but that’s because when you drink you are a yob.
“You broke a man’s jaw. He had to have an operation to have it fixed. That’s a permanent reminder of what you did.”
Davidson, of Rolleston Road, Blackburn, has six convictions for seven offences.
He was sentenced to 18 month suspended for two years, ordered to complete 30 rehabilitation activity days and carry out a six month alcohol treatment programme.
