A TikTok star with more than 400,000 followers has created a unique dish for a Mexican street food takeaway in Burnley.

Lytham-based Dad The Dish, also known as Simon Hannigan, visits takeaways around the UK to create one of his famous "munchy boxes" for them.

The aim of these creations and videos is to advertise small businesses, for free, to his 442,000 TikTok followers.

All venues are recommended by customers and Yorkshire Street’s The Hatch Grill and Waffle House was one of the latest to be recommended.

Simon created a "Taki birria taco munchy box" for the business, which consists of a red pepper chicken taco, a blue Taki (a brand of tortilla crisps) taco, lemon pepper waffle fries, halloumi fries and Mexican street corn.

He also made a video of the creation which has since been viewed by 1.3m people.

The Hatch co-owner Rachel Boys said the dish is now a permanent addition to the menu and can be purchased on Wednesdays and Saturdays for £29.99.

She said: “Simon’s doing such amazing work for so many small businesses.

“He wanted to create a box using things off our menu but also incorporating items we had never made before.

“He was then going to throw it all together in a ‘munchy box’.

“Our customers love that we use Takis in our cooking, and the crisps are so popular on TikTok and in America, which is why we wanted to incorporate them in the box.

“The taste is unbelievable, it’s sweet, spicy and sour. It’s just mouth-watering.”

Rachel, who made a brief appearance in the video, said she can’t believe it has been viewed by 1.3m people so far.

She said: “I have never been so embarrassed. I couldn’t listen to my own voice.

"However, the video itself is amazing and I am blow away that more than one million people have watched it.

“I just can’t get over it all, we are living the dream at the minute. This is all we have ever wanted, to have our own business that is doing so well.”

Rachel said she is grateful for the social media exposure.

She said: “We are just so grateful that he came to make the box for us we are also so grateful from our customers for making it happen.

“I am a brand new mother and the business only opened three months ago, but customers have been so patient with us.”

Since the video was uploaded Rachel Boys says the business has gained more than 1,000 Facebook followers and it has been inundated with orders.

She said: “We were already working at full capacity and rushed off our feet. Since this box has come out I’ve had to employ two more chefs.

“Our shop is booming and customers are queuing 15 minutes before we even open as they know how busy we are.

“Customers are knocking on the shutters asking to come in early.”

Rachel is now encouraging street food-lovers to come and visit the business, which only opened three months ago, for themselves.

The 34-year-old said: “As a business we have so many unique food ideas – we live, breathe and sleep new ideas.

“If you haven’t tried us already, get down here and give us a go. Everything is cooked fresh and the food is mouth-watering, I can’t lie.”

Simon said: “I’m using my platform to put a munchy box on venues across the UK to generate traffic to them, to help them grow and to combat the current cost of living crisis.

"Most videos are getting millions of views across TikTok and Instagram

“All venues are recommended by their customers by tagging them in comments on my Instagram post, I then check them out and reach out to them.

“The Hatch were recommended multiple times and they’ve got positive reviews across the board.”
