Actors at a performing school in East Lancashire are in rehearsals for their first show of the year as they prepare to get back on stage.

Stage Door Youth Theatre, based in Colne, is a theatre group offering classes for ages from reception through to adults, producing one mainstage show per year with smaller outside productions throughout the rest of the year.

This March will see the group, made up of 11 to 17-year-olds from local high schools including FisherMore, West Craven, St Augustines, and Bowland, return to Colne Muni Theatre for their live shows of Broadway Lights, West End Nights – and rehearsals have already begun.

The show will feature well-known numbers from an array of popular productions, from Blood Brothers and Phantom of the Opera, to We Will Rock You and High School Musical.

Lauren Jackson, event coordinator at Pendle Leisure Trust, said: “We have worked with Stage Door in previous years and we are really excited to welcome them back onto the Muni stage.

“Janet [Philbrook, creative leader of Stage Door] and her team are working so hard on the show, it really is one not to be missed and we hope you can come along and support this amazing youth theatre company.”

Stage Door was founded in 2005 by Ms Philbrook, an experienced actor and performer who has appeared in West End shows such as Les Misérables.

She said: “Our core mission is to be inclusive – celebrating the young people in Lancashire who enjoy and thrive being a part of our growing community.

“It is so much more than an amateur theatre group, it’s a family and a safe haven for our young people, helping them grow and learn outside of school.

“I can’t wait for everyone to come and see the amazing talent and efforts of our wonderful young performers.”

Performances of Broadway Lights, West End Nights will take place on Tuesday, March 14, and Wednesday, March 15, at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale now, priced at £8 each.
