The organiser of one of East Lancashire’s biggest music festivals has turned his hand to hospitality of a different nature by opening a floating hotel.

Located on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Riley Green, Flotel is the brainchild of Zander Lawrenson, who organises Restricted Forest and Restricted Rocks, and his father Paul.

They decided to do something different with their time during lockdown when music festivals were banned.

Lancashire Telegraph:

After coming across a “stunning” wide beam barge at the Riley Green Marina in Hoghton, Mr Lawrenson said he and his father decided to buy the vessel, which at the time was just an empty shell, and turn it into a canal boat like no other.

He said: “We came across this stunning wide beam with no name at Riley Green Marina.

“At this time it was just an empty shell, and we made the decision to buy her.

“Twelve months later we had a masterpiece like no other canal boat on the market.

“When we could reunite after the lockdown with friends and family, they gave us the idea that we should look at hiring this out.”

The Flotel, named Show Time, offers the ultimate in luxury and comfort, and has something to suit every need, whether for a romantic getaway, anniversary/birthday celebration, or just to relax and unwind.

Mr Lawrenson continued: “The name Show Time came from my mother Andrea Lawrenson.

"Before each festival, when we open the gates to thousands of people, she always says ‘it’s show time’, so we thought it a nice idea to call the Flotel this.

“We have made some amazing memories and friends along the way with this venture and we hope we can do the same for others.

“People can now hire the vessel, which comes with an on-land hot tub and fire pit, plus all the luxuries inside.

“It’s a fantastic alternative to a traditional hotel or cottage getaway and an idyllic break away from home.”

As well as all the on-board amenities, there’s also a peaceful on-land Garden of Eden where the barge is docked, which features a private log-burning hot tub, a state of the art firepit and outdoor seating area.

Mr Lawrenson added: “The vessel was designed around the luxury Italian brands with no expense spared.

“Privately moored with a gated entrance, this wide beam barge offers personalised packages to cater to individual needs.

“We are hoping to have packages and prices out in the next couple of days and start taking bookings from March.”

Guests can personalise their packages with a Captain, Chef or Waiter to make their stay that little bit more special.

Hires are available for stationary use for self-catering days and nights. Packages can be tailored for friends or family of guests, but Show Time sleeps up to two people.

Booking and prices will be available soon, and for more information visit the Flotel Suite website.
