An Aylesbury road will be closed for four days later this month as works continue to improve cycle routes.

Fowler Road is set to be closed from February 6 to 10 as Buckinghamshire Council carry out phase 2 of the Platinum Way crossing construction works.

The works will improve the existing Emerald Way Gemstone cycle route which links Haydon Hill to Aylesbury Town Centre (via Fairford Leys).

The council were awarded £1.4 million from the Department for Transport’s Active Travel Fund towards the Emerald Way upgrades.

It is hoped the proposed scheme will provide an upgraded route along Rabans Lane, through Fairford Leys and into the town centre.

Phase 1 of the main works was completed on May 29 and it opened on May 30 to coincide with the Queen's Jubilee celebrations.

The majority of the phase two works are scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2023.

A council statement said: "The Emerald Way route forms part of the wider ‘Buckinghamshire Greenway’ walking and cycling route from Brackley to the Colne Valley.

"This improvement project aims to increase walking and cycling between Waddesdon and Aylesbury contributing towards improved public health, reductions in traffic congestion, and providing air quality benefits associated with modal shift towards active travel."
